What We Believe... The ministry of this church is based entirely upon the premise that the Bible is God's Word in its entirety. Every teaching, practice and program is specifically designed to allow for the direct application of biblical principles to the lives of men, women, and children. We believe that only the Bible is inspired in every word and that men's writing may help us understand the Bible or apply it to our lives. It is our further belief, that on the basis of God's Word, every individual can have a personal relationship with God. This relationship begins when the individual asks God to forgive him/her for his/her sins and invites Jesus Christ to be their Savior and Lord. In accordance with the Word of God, we believe that the Spirit makes it possible for the individual to have this personal relationship with the Heavenly Father which lasts forever and is known as eternal life. As far as personal everyday living is concerned, we believe that God's Word and the above-mentioned personal relationship with God gives us the ability to cope with any situation that life may have to offer. The personally productive and joy-filled life of individuals of all ages is the focus of why we come together as a church to study, worship, fellowship and pray. God has given every believer who has this personal relationship with him a special ability to help others that is over and above their own natural talents and resources. The Bible calls this a "spiritual gift." We would like to help every individual find out how they can use their spiritual gift in serving God. We also desire to help them discover a loving, caring environment in which they can grow as a person. (If you desire a more detailed doctrinal statement, see below.)
Doctrinal Statement
As members of this church, we believe in the following statement of faith:
1. The Scriptures, both Old and New Testaments, are the inspired Word of God without error in the original writings, the complete revelation of His will for the salvation of mankind, and the divine and final authority for all Christian faith and life.
2. There is one God, Creator of all things, infinitely perfect and eternally existing in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
3. Jesus Christ is true God and true man, having been conceived of the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary. He died on the cross as a sacrifice for our sins according to the Scriptures. Further, He arose bodily from the dead, ascended into heaven, where, at the right hand of the Majesty on High, He is now our High Priest and Advocate.
4. The ministry of the Holy Spirit is to glorify the Lord Jesus Christ and, during this age, to convict mankind of sin; to simultaneously regenerate, permanently seal, indwell, and baptize the believing sinner into the one body of Christ. He further guides, instructs and empowers the believer for godly living and sacrifice. We believe that there is one baptism of the Holy Spirit but many fillings. These fillings do not demand any experiential manifestation.
5. Man was created in the image of God but fell into sin and is therefore lost, and only through regeneration by the Holy Spirit can eternal salvation and spiritual life be obtained.
6. The shed blood of Jesus Christ and His resurrection provide the only ground for the justification and salvation for all who believe, and only such as receive Jesus Christ by faith are born of the Holy Spirit and thus become the children of God.
7. The personal, premillenial, and imminent return of our Lord Jesus Christ is our "blessed hope" and has a vital bearing on the personal life and service of the believer.
8. There will be a bodily resurrection of all the dead, of the believer to everlasting blessedness and joy with the Lord, and of the unbeliever to judgment and everlasting conscious punishment.
9. The true Church is composed of all such persons, who, through saving faith in Jesus Christ, have been regenerated by the Holy Spirit and are united together in the body of Christ of which He is the Head. We also believe in the priesthood of every believer and that each individual believer should exercise his/her spiritual gifts.
10. Water baptism by immersion soon after accepting Christ as personal Savior is a testimony of death to sin and resurrection to a new life. The Lord's Supper is a memorial service, setting forth in sacred and symbolic manner the death of the Lord Jesus Christ; all true believers and only believers should share in it. Both baptism and the Lord's Supper are ordinances that Christ Himself commanded us to obey.
In the interest of preserving doctrinal and practical unity, as is mentioned in Article VI, Section 5.5b in the Calvary Crossroads Church constitution, members shall not propagate, teach, nor manifest doctrines and practices that would be divisive or conflicting with the doctrinal positions approved of by the Governing Board (of Elders).
